How Many Centimeters Can I Grow? Height Gain Potential Calculator

One of the most common questions asked by people considering limb lengthening surgery is: “How many centimeters can I safely and aesthetically gain? How much in the femur and how much in the tibia makes sense for me?”

This page contains a height gain potential calculator that uses your height and leg length to estimate a theoretical total lengthening range (in cm). It also provides an example distribution between femur (thigh) and tibia (shin). Final decisions must always be made after a clinical and radiological evaluation by your surgeon.

How the Height Gain Potential Calculator Works

The tool evaluates several parameters:

  • Your current height (cm)
  • Your leg length (ASIS → medial malleolus)
  • Your age group
  • Your daily activity level
  • Your flexibility level

First, it calculates your leg/height ratio. If your legs are proportionally short, there is usually a higher aesthetic potential for lengthening. If proportions are already balanced, a more conservative plan is preferred.

Example Femur–Tibia Lengthening Plan (Updated, No Low Tibia Values)

Based on your total theoretical potential (for example 10–13 cm), the tool generates a sample plan:

  • High potential: Femur 7–8 cm + Tibia 4–5 cm
  • Medium potential: Femur 6–8 cm + Tibia 4–5 cm (optional)
  • Lower potential: Femur 6–7 cm + Tibia 4–5 cm (selected cases)
  • Minimum potential: Femur 5–6 cm + Tibia ~4 cm (rare cases)

Note that tibia values are never shown as 2 cm or 3 cm, because such low targets are not practical or motivational for real candidates.
